PowerSource ASHP Integration Project
Scope Precision & Integration

"We work alongside your ASHP installer (or can recommend one) to deliver the electrical supply, controls wiring, and certification the heat pump needs to run efficiently and safely."

ASHP demands on older Edinburgh properties.

Older Edinburgh properties (Georgian and Victorian tenements especially) often have main electrical supplies that were never sized for modern heat pump demands. Underspecced setups run the risk of constant nuisance tripping, poor efficiency, or safety hazards. We deliver the engineering and supply upgrades needed to make heat pumps a viable, highly efficient reality.

Electrical Supply Assessment

We calculate your property’s maximum electrical demand to ensure the incoming main supply can support a heat pump safely.

Consumer Unit Upgrades

If needed, we replace outdated fuse boards with modern consumer units incorporating surge protection and RCBO safety switches.

Dedicated Circuits

We run heavy-duty dedicated power supplies directly from your board to the outdoor ASHP compressor unit.

Controls & Thermostat Wiring

We route and wire smart controls, temperature sensors, and interface links between the pump, tank, and thermostat.

ASHP Electrical FAQ

Do I need an electrical upgrade before installing a heat pump?

Often, yes. Older consumer units (fuse boards) and incoming main house fuses in Edinburgh (especially Georgian and Victorian tenements) are typically sized for 60A or 80A. A heat pump requires a high starting and operating current, which might require a Board upgrade to 100A or a modern consumer unit with proper RCD/RCBO protection to prevent nuisance tripping.

Does this affect my EPC or renewables grant eligibility?

Our work ensures the electrical safety and structural compliance necessary for final sign-off. Correctly certified electrical installations (including Part P/NICEIC certificates) are essential documents required by the Home Energy Scotland grant scheme to release funding.

Can you work with my existing ASHP installer?

Yes. We work seamlessly alongside plumbing and heating contractors. We deliver the dedicated supply circuit, thermostat/controls wiring, and structural safety documentation, while they handle the refrigeration, wet plumbing system, and commissioning.
